The tenth Guru of Sikhs, Sri Gobind Singh Ji, left for his heavenly abode along with his Horse Dilbagh at Nanded on 07 October 1708. It is here that Guru Gobind Singh Ji ordered all Sikhs to accept Sri Guru Granth Sahib (the holy book) as their Preceptor and the holy book was granted the status of “Eternal Guru”. He did this as he knew that human beings perish but noble ideas live forever.
In the first week of Sept. 1708, Bairagi Sadhu Madho Das was baptised as a Sikh by Guru Gobind Singh Ji. He was named Banda Singh Bahadur by the Guru. From 1709 to 1715 the great hero and fierce fighter who shook the foundations of Mughal empire and shaped the history of Sikhs that led to liberation of Punjab in 1764-65.
The historical Gurdwara Sachkhand Sahib that stands here in his memory was built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh. It took 5 years to complete from 1832 to 1837. This historical Gurdwara located near river Godavari is also one of the five Takhts of the Sikhs. Some other historical Gurdwaras in and around Nanded are Banda Ghat, Nagina Ghat , Sangat Sahib, Shikar Ghat, Baoli Sahib, Mal Tekdi, Hira Ghat and Mata Sahib.
