Situated on the banks of river Sipra is the holy city of Ujjain (also known as Avantika) where Mahakaleswar Temple is located. It is difficult to say when the Mahakaleshwar temple came into existence. It houses one of the twelve Aadi Jyotirlingas. Here the lingam of Mahakla is believed to have been born of itself (swayambhu). The temple is a three story structure. On the lowest part is the lingam of Mahakaleswara, in the middle part is lingam of Omkareswara and the upper part has lingam of Nagachandreswara. Pilgrins can get a glimpse of Nagachandreswara only on the festival of Naga Panchmi.
Other temples one can visit in Ujjain are Kal Bhairava temple, Harsiddhi temple, Chintaman Ganesh temple, Bade Ganeshji temple and Mangalnath temple.
Located on the banks of river Narmada, Omkareashwar is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. The temple is located at a distance of 77 kms from Indore. It is not knows as to who constructed this temple and when. The main temple is built on the North Indian Temple architecture. On the second story there is a temple dedicated to Lord Mahakal (Mahakaleshwar).
Other temples to visit are Panchmukhi Ganesh temple, Mamleshwar temple, Vrahadeshwar temple and Govindeshwar temple & cave.
